The Junior League of Louisville (JLL) is proud to anounce its fourth annual charity fundraising bash, February 20, 2010, “Two of a Kind: A New York State of Mind”. Held at the beautiful Gillespie event center from 7 PM-midnight, guests will enjoy fabulous foods from Little Italy, Chinatown, Coney Island, Times Square and more. Join us in helping to feed the community through this amazing event!

Cocktails inspired by New York, Broadway- and NYC-style street performances, a live DJ and a coffee bar just like you'd find in Central Park with warm roasted nuts and pretzels are sure to make the evening complete. Guests will also get to test their luck with live and silent auctions, as well as casino-style games, all to benefit Blessings in a Backpack and the JLL Urban Garden & community projects.

Tickets are available at the door.  Single event tickets will be $120 at the door ($100 in advance) and late night tickets are $75 at the door ($60 in advance).

Blessings in a Backpack

  • The Blessings in a Backpack program is designed to help meet the nutritional needs of children over weekends 
  • 12.4 million American children -- one in six -- are food insecure 
  • Approximately 60% of kids in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) are on the Federally Funded Food Program 
  • Currently there are 12 schools in Kentucky and 7 schools in Indiana that offer Blessings in a Backpack (impacting 42,738 and 2,204 students, respectively) 
  • For schools with the program, there is a dramatic changes in grades, attendance and students' physical well-being 
  • $80 feeds a struggling school child for an entire school year of weekends

JLL Urban Garden & Community Projects 

  • JLL's Urban Garden is just that--an urban garden being planned now to help bring healthy, fresh vegetables to an underserved area of the city; the Urban Garden is part of JLL's larger Be Fit, Be Fine initiative 
  • Be Fit, Be Fine is a multi-faceted initiative addressing the attacking the childhood health and wellness crisis in our community through programs with the YMCA, the American Heart Association and Jefferson County Public Schools, in addition to the Urban Garden 
  • Noogiefest, a children’s Halloween program at Gilda’s Club for children affected by cancer 
  • Home of the Innocents Pregnant & Parenting Teens program 
  • Bloom Boutique prom program for at-risk girls 
  • Keep in Touch breast cancer survivor program in partnership with the Kentucky Cancer Program

The third annual Two of a Kind event was held on Saturday, February 14, 2009. Attendees joined the Junior League of Louisville and Jeanne and Stan Curtis for dinner, drinks, dueling pianos, casino-style gambling and much more fun!
