What's new at 633 Baxter Avenue? Is it a bird, a plane, no it's comedienne Gilda Radner waving through a set of open red doors !! The Junior League of Louisville was thrilled to welcome the newest affiliate of Gilda's Club to our Louisville community in 2007.
The Gilda's Club Affiliate Network currently serves more than 50,000 members in 21 cities, with 30 clubhouses and satellites across North America with additional locations in development. Free of charge and nonprofit, Gilda's Club offers support and networking groups, lectures, workshops, and social events in a comfortable, homelike setting. Gilda's Club is a place where people learn how to live with cancer, whatever the outcome. If you are a loved one has been affected by cancer, please email Gilda's Club for more information.
Children affected by cancer deserve a program that addresses their specific needs: these programs come to fruition in a place called Noogieland. Noogieland is loaded with goodies for children of all ages to share. As part of The Junior League's "85 for 85" anniversary celebration, we awarded a grant of $ 50,000 to partially fund Noogieland.
The third annual Noogiefest for Gilda's Club of Louisville was held on Saturday, October 24, 2009. Noogiefest is an annual party thrown by every Gilda's Club exclusively for kids affected by cancer whether they themselves are a patient or someone close to them.
The Junior League hosted event featured of a number of kid-friendly activities, a safari show, face painting, crafts, food and so much more. See the article about the event from the Courier-Journal. See the photo galleries from our 2008 event and 2009 event.
